INA-19 David Ray Student Symposium and Travel Award

Dr. David Ray of Nottingham was a former INA president, an outstanding researcher in neurotoxicology, with a sincere commitment to training PhD students. His comments and questions were always sagacious and phrased using “British” humor. With David’s passing in 2010, INA lost a valuable promoter of neurotoxicology much too early. So to keep the memory of David Ray alive, INA established the David Ray Student Symposium.

INA encourages the active participation and engagement of emerging neurotoxicology researchers during the 2025 INA meeting in Sommarøy, Norway. The David Ray Student Symposium, scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025 from 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM, is an opportunity for trainees to receive travel support and present their work at INA-19.

To be fully considered for participation as a speaker in the David Ray Student Symposium, we encourage trainees* to submit abstracts for this symposium by February 7, 2025. Abstracts and nomination packets will be reviewed by the INA-19 scientific committee and those selected to present will be notified by March 2025.

Trainees selected to participate in the David Ray Student Symposium will receive travel support (partial reimbursement of travel expenses with the amount dependent on available funding and estimated travel expenses of the individual). Student presentations will be evaluated during the symposium, and the student judged to have the best oral presentation will be awarded the David Ray Student Travel Award and receive full compensation of their travel expenses.

Pending review of several trainee support applications submitted by the INA Executive Council, there may be additional funds available to defray travel expenses for graduate students and postdocs who submit abstracts but are not chosen to present in the David Ray Student Symposium.

Who can apply?

  • All trainees currently working on their PhD, MD, or VMD thesis in any area of neurotoxicology under the supervision of a full INA member and early postdocs who defended their PhD/MD thesis in 2020 or later are eligible to apply.
